Bruce Simon is the Associate Director for the Institute for STEM Education, California State University East Bay. Bruce Simon has managed the East Bay STEM Network since September 2012. He has worked in formal and informal education around the Bay Area for the past 20 years and is focused on strengthening and expanding the network to continue progress toward the goal of ensuring access to high-quality STEM education and programs for children and youth across Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Prior to joining the team at CSUEB, Bruce was the Director of Education at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, a world-class Children’s Museum located in Sausalito, California. At the Museum, Bruce led the creation of Connections, a community outreach program focused on STEM learning with preschool-age children. His background also includes positions as the Curriculum Coordinator at a Communications and Technology Magnet School in Berkeley, work with the Bay Area Math Project, Mathematics Professional Development Institute, and 15 years as a primary school classroom teacher. The knowledge and experience he has gained from working in formal and informal education for the past 20 years, including but not limited to work surrounding effective teaching of mathematics, supports efforts to ensure access to high-quality STEM education and programs for all Bay Area children and youth.
